In this article, learn details about frequency of updates to the social data Chatmeter reports from Facebook, Google, Instagram, and Twitter in LocationHQ graphs. We also explain delays between the data showing up on the provider sites and in LocationHQ. Last, learn how these collection practices affect what you see, and when, in LocationHQ.
Collecting updated engagement data
Chatmeter collects data from providers on a regular basis, mostly daily. See Table 1 for specifics about what data is collected, how often, and when.
For each provider, Table 1 specifies:
- Provider—Listing provider supported–Facebook, Instagram, Google Q&A, or Twitter
- Data—Which data is collected, including followers, posts, and post analytics and insights
- Backfill—Data that is collected when a new social account credential is added
- Update Schedule—When and what data is updated. All data that is updated daily is updated at approximately 12am (midnight) UTC.

Impact of data collection practices on LocationHQ metrics
Adding a new location, changes in your business’s provider account credentials, or other provider settings can affect how and what data Chatmeter collects and reports. If you see unexpected changes in the social metrics you follow, review the notes in this section for possible explanations.
Metrics update when you add a location
When you add a new location to Chatmeter, Chatmeter then begins to collect engagement (comments, likes, and shares), Google Q&A, and follower data. Previous data the providers might have gathered for the location’s listing is not included in the LocationHQ metrics. The only historical data you’ll find are Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram post counts.
You’ll notice that on the day you add a location, there’s a data spike in follower/fan counts and Google Q&A because the historical data that is included is applied to that first day. The impact of that data spike will decrease over time.
Impact of adding or updating a credential on LocationHQ Summary data
When you add a credential for a third-party account, the Chatmeter platform begins to collect metrics data from the account for the LocationHQ Summary page (Social > Summary).
If you’re expecting data from a provider and don’t see it, make sure that you’ve added a credential for your provider account and that it hasn’t expired. If it has expired, you’ll need to add it again for data collection to resume.
With Facebook and Instagram accounts, if you don’t see engagement data, you might need to add credentials again or make sure that the Facebook account/credential that Chatmeter is using has Full Control (access) to all the pages or Instagram accounts for which you need data. n
You have to assign the user the pages or accounts as assets in your Facebook Business Account settings. You must do this for both Facebook pages and Instagram accounts. We recommend giving Full Access permission, which gives credential users access to all aspects of the Facebook page or Instagram account. If Facebook or Instagram credential users do’t have Full Access to the Facebook page or Instagram account, then we won’t be able to complete some aspects of managing the social accounts through LocationHQ (for example, posting or accessing metrics for the Social summary).
When you update or repeat the addition of a credential, you may see a gap in engagement, follower/fan counts, and numbers of Google Q&A posts and answers for the account. This gap is caused by the time during which Chatmeter did not have the credential authorizing access to the account.
Note that Chatmeter did not collect engagement data (number of likes, shares, and comments) prior to May 1, 2020, so there is no data available for posts created prior to that date.
For information about viewing and adding credentials for third-party accounts, see the article Managing Third-party Credentials in the Account Settings section of the Chatmeter Support Center. For information about delays between activities on provider sites and LocationHQ Summary page, see the section Time between activities on provider sites and data in LocationHQ.
